Everyone that knows me well, knows that I live for wedding season! I love my job as a PEI Marriage Commissioner and I consider it a gift and an honour to be able to officiate for over 80 couples this upcoming season. It may sound cliche, but I love being a Wedding Officiant so much that I don’t consider it work at all – being a Prince Edward Island Marriage Commissioner is a part of who I am.
I often get asked the question – what type of wedding setting do you like the best? I never quite know how to answer that because I honestly love all of them! Whether you are eloping to Prince Edward Island, having a small backyard wedding, a large wedding at one of the many great venues on the Island or an intimate ceremony on a PEI beach – there’s a beautiful ceremony waiting to happen!
To illustrate, recently I officiated a large wedding in western PEI – the bride and groom chose to incorporate their children into the ceremony with a sand ceremony to symoblize the blending of their two families into one and also presented the children with necklaces as their own special gifts on the wedding day. It was so beautiful and touching and a reflection on how important becoming one big family meant to the couple.
That very same day, I officiated a very small, intimate wedding in Charlottetown. The bride and groom couldn’t keep their eyes off of each other for even a second and as they exchanged their vows, their love for each other radiated. The most important thing to them on that day was that they got to become husband and wife. It was honestly again, beautiful.
As you can see, both ceremonies were completely different however, both were equally filled with love.
There are no traditions anymore when it comes weddings and I encourage all couples out there that are contemplating their wedding to choose something that reflects you as a couple, after all it is Your PEI Wedding!
