I met photographer, Barbara Rahal (barbararahal.com) at a wedding that we were working together a few years ago – we instantly connected as friends and we have kept in touch ever since! When we discussed doing an elopement shoot, I was so excited and plans were underway to showcase, what I think, is a very special way to get married AND a very special place to get married – which of course, is on our beloved Island. I always say that I love all weddings but there is something especially romantic about an elopement, it’s so intimate and beautiful.
Plans soon were underway for the shoot and more exciting, I got to handpick the vendors that I thought would be great to feature for a magazine spread for Bridal Fantasy, bridalfantasy.com/magazine
I introduced Barbara to Shaw’s Hotel (shawshotel.ca) which is a GORGEOUS historic property in Brackley Beach overlooking the water. The hotel started in 1860 and is still operational 4 generations later. What I love most about Shaw’s besides that it is picturesque, gorgeous and a piece of Island history – is that it really does exude traditional Prince Edward Island hospitality. The Shaw Family and their staff could teach a course in their delivery of genuine old-fashioned PEI hospitality and making people feel welcome. What’s excellent is as well, is that my good friend, Chef Darius Martin is the Executive Chef at Shaw’s and also teaches at the Culinary Institute. He is an amazingly talented Chef and I admire his skills and management style greatly. It was a pleasure to have him cook up some of his award winning seafood chowder, mussels for our bride and groom to share on a red picnic table near the beach. How romantic!
I hope you enjoy a teaser of some of the pictures of the shoot below! Aren’t they amazing? Barbara Rahal is an artist and I am so glad we became friends after Kiaya & Adrian’s wedding!
I will write another post tomorrow with more pictures from the day!
Happy Wedding Planning!
